A record of nearly 90,000 Meals on Wheels were served to the elderly last year, a 40 per cent increae over the year 2000, Parliamentary Secretary fr the Elderly Mario Galea said.
He said that since 2008, the meals have been prepared by the kitchen staff at St Vincent de Paul Residence. A total 2,500 meals are prepared daily.
Mr Galea said that demand for Telecare was also on the increase. The service is currently used by 9,088 elderly, up from 8483 in 2001.
