TARXIEN RAINBOWS-2, MOSTA-1
A late goal by Mark Tanti gave Tarxien Rainbows a vital 2-1 win in their relegation duel with Mosta at the Hibs Stadium.
After the two teams had traded two goals in the opening half, Tarxien lifted their game after the change of ends to outfight and outsmart a strangely subdued Mosta side.
The win takes Tarxien three points clear of Mosta and six ahead of second-from-bottom Mqabba, who play Marsaxlokk on Sunday, with only two games remaining.
Tarxien opened the scoring after six minutes. Adrian Carabott cut in from the right before squaring Luiz Romulo De Castro who hit home from a central position.
Florent Raimy went close for Mosta with a diagonal screamer that flew just wide of the far post.
Bolstered by their early opener, the Rainbows came close to a second goal when Carabott swept past Alex Cini on the right but his low cross was cleared away by Federico Tisbi.
Tarxien were the better side in the initial stages. Daniel Mariano Bueno had a close-range effort blocked by Jonathan Debono, the Mosta goalkeeper, after the Blues had failed to clear Mark Tanti's corner.
At the other end, Orosco Anonam almost committed an own goal as his mishit clearance...
