Superyacht facility tender was extremely clean - Mimcol chairman

The chairman of Mimcol told the court today that the tendering process for the superyacht facility was so clean he wished he could give his papers to the press. Chairman John Falzon was testifying in the case against CEO Mario Mizzi, who is pleading not guilty to asking for a bribe. Mr Falzon said that when he was interrogated by the police he was shown an email from Mr Mizzi to Sue Hall, a British appointed technical expert, and found it a little "blatant". But once he carried out his research he did not find anything wrong with it. Mr Falzon said he was interrogated by the Police Commissioner and three high ranking officer's over six hours and although he came to a different conclusion when reanalysing the situation the Commissioner did not give him another appointment. The tendering call was issued as part of the government's plan to privatise the shipyard and turn it into four entities, including one dealing with superyacht repairs. A member of a bidding consortium, Paul Cardona, claimed Mr Mizzi had approached him and told him "take care of me and I will take care of you". He had taken this to be some sort of bribe.
