A layer of tarmac has been laid between St Theresa Street and Cospicua Seafront Street in urgent road works ordered by the Infrastructure Ministry.
The works were ordered after the contractor for works on Dock 1 was sacked by the ministry over its failure to finish the works.
The urgent works, which will enable the Good Friday celebration this evening to be held without disruption, is costing an additional €65,000.
The government is, however, suing the original contractor.
A fresh tender for the completion of the project is being issued.
The €3.8 million Dock 1 embellishment project was launched in February 2008 when the government had applied for EU funds, which were approved in August that year.
A call for tenders was issued in May 2010 and the contract was awarded to Marinelli Construzioni SpA, which submitted the cheapest offer. The works started in January last year and were meant to be completed in May.
