Colette Sultana will tomorrow play in the final of the Welsh Junior Open.
To make it to the final, being played in Cardiff, the Maltese 16-year old had to overcome better ranked players in very tough matches in the quarters and semi-final stages.
Sultana's first encounter was a qualifying match, played yesterday morning, against local girl Sophie Alderman, which Colette won comfortably 11-2, 11-7, 11-3.
This earned her a place in the quarter-finals later that day against top Welsh player girl Jenny Haley. Haley was expected to reach the semis and in fact looked to be well on her way, after taking the first game 11-5. However, Sultana reacted well and produced some brilliant squash to upstage her opponent, winning the next three games and the match 11-6, 11-6, 11-7.
In the semi-final, which was played this afternoon, Sultana was again the underdog against even stronger opponent Breanne Flynne, the tournament favourite.
