Last month was the third coldest February since records started being kept in 1923, and rainfall was twice the average, the MIA Met Office said today.
A total of 132.6 mm of rain fell in February at Malta Airport when the monthly average is 61.3mm. The rainiest day was the 21stwith 24.2mm. The highest rainfall amount for February since 1947 was 187.9mm in 1965.
February was also colder than the climate norm. The mean temperature for February was 10.2oC which was 2.2oC lower than the norm of 12.4oC. This was the third coldest February since 1923.
With a mean maximum temperature of 13oC and a mean minimum temperature of 7.5oC both the mean maximum and the mean minimum temperatures were well below the climate norm of 15.5oC and 9.3oC.
The highest temperature for this February was 15.9oC on the 3rd, while the lowest was 3.6oC on the 14th.
