Prison inmate Joseph Cini, 44, known as Il-Pele claimed in court today that he was beaten up by Police Inspector Geoffrey Cilia when he was arrested in 2008.
The allegations come less than two months after Inspector Cilia was charged in court with having beaten up three brothers in an incident in Paceville, seriously injuring one of them. He is currently suspended from the Service.
Today's allegations were made by Mr Cini during the compilation of evidence where he stands charged with injuring Inspector Cilia, slightly injuring Constable Robert Ebejer and escaping from police custody at Mater Dei Hospital in 2008.
Lawyer Renzo Porsella Flores asked Magistrate Doreen Clarke to hear Police Superintendent Stephen Gatt confirm that he had arraigned the police inspector over aggression in a separate case.
The Magistrate turned down the request and said the charges made before her had nothing to do with this.
