A 21-year-old man from Qormi this afternoon pleaded guilty to involuntarily causing grievous injuries on a 13-year old and slightly injuring a 16-year-old while driving carelessly at excessive speed.
David Attard was driving a Volkswagen in St Sebastian Street, Qormi yesterday afternoon not far from a sleeping policeman and five metres away from a zebra crossing.
Defence lawyer Edward Gatt said his client lost control and crashed into a metal door, injuring the two teenagers in the process.
He noted that his client was a first time offender and said he should get the minimum penalty.
Senior Police Inspector Joseph Agius said it was important that the accused learned from his mistakes so as not to repeat them. He should know that a car was not a toy.
A decision will be given tomorrow. Until then, Mr Attard was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €1,500.
