Surely, the commandment ‘Love thy neighbour as thyself, was intended to cover not just those residing some metres away from each other but also the many who, although living hundreds of miles away, also qualify as neighbours.
We are, consequently, all bound by the same superior directive to strive hard and do our best to extend a helping hand of love, by all means at our disposal, to these far-flung neighbours. This is especially true for the unfortunate whose health or adverse circumstances preclude them from earning their daily bread, unlike those of us who feel as fit as a fiddle and are always on the move seeking to improve even more our satisfactory living standard.
The precept is not just a religious guide and obligation but should also be considered and practised as a political expedient and necessity to maintain peace and prosperity throughout all the corners of the earth where humans are destined to live and reside.
