Would it not be both pointless and rather silly to deprive patients of the skills of an experienced ophthalmic surgeon (April 17) simply because he chose to enter politics and was selected for office?
It takes many years to acquire surgical skills and they are rapidly lost if they are not used on a regular basis, to the further detriment of the public.
A reasonable solution would be for Franco Mercieca to direct any private fees earned as a result of his work during his time in Government to the Malta Community Chest Fund.
Such an equitable arrangement would, I’m sure, be perfectly acceptable to most people of goodwill.
