Heard the one about that poor chap who got tired of a sedate, non eventful, life in heaven and was granted a visit to hell to see what he’s missing?
There, he got a great welcome from the chief devil with champagne and a game of golf in pristine surroundings where he made lots of friends and had a wonderful time. Back in heaven he rebelled that he was being cheated of an exciting eternal life and asked for a transfer. True to his democratic self, St Peter warned him that there would be no way back but it was his choice.
No matter, the man insisted and St Peter escorted him to the lift and down he went to hell.
Enter he did, almost salivating in anticipation of the joys ahead, only to be welcomed this time by his new friends dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above. And by a big grin from the chief devil. Perplexed, he asked a bit anxiously: “what happened?”
“Ah”, came the answer, “yesterday we were campaigning... today you voted”.
