The two matches of this weekend’s restrictive programme were resolved in favour of Sliema McDonald’s and San Ġiljan Sir Alex at the expense of inferior opponents.
In the first clash, the Blues got going against Valletta in the second quarter of the game after the City team’s initial resistance fizzled out. Their very short eight-man squad was a spent force against a Sliema side that kept making use of all their units.
Seven goals in the second session, after a 1-1 first quarter, signalled the end of the match as a contest. After that goalrush, the Blues kept extending their lead with a minimum of effort, registering their expected win on a 18-5 scoreline.
Sliema’s chief scorer was John Brownrigg with five goals while for Valletta Ryan Mock again topped his team’s list with three.
In the second non-competitive match, San Ġiljan had an equally easy outing against the ASA U-17 selection when defeating their younger opponents decisively.
It was almost effortless for the Saints for whom Jean Claude Cutajar was the chief striker with five goals.
