Labour MP Karmenu Vella yesterday filed a judicial protest against a reader of The Times who alleged in a letter that he had a criminal record and that he smuggled items into Malta in 1983.
The letter, published on Valentine’s Day and titled ‘Muscat’s Selective Attitude’, was written by Salvu Felice Pace.
The correspondent alleged Mr Vella had illegally smuggled items on his yacht after anchoring at Għadira Bay in Mellieħa. It was also alleged he had a criminal record. Mr Vella denied the allegations and described them as baseless and untrue and said that it caused a lot of damage to him because of the electoral campaign.
He said that he was holding Mr Felice Pace responsible. Mr Vella also attached a copy of his record of clean conduct as evidence.
