One reason much of the religion of our day is powerless and only works in concept but not in the practical application of the believers’ life is because it’s a one-sided deal, with God doing all the giving and us doing all the taking, nothing more. We behave like spiritual babies who refuse to give up the bottle or make any real investment into the process of sanctification but expect to reap all the rewards.
I am not suggesting that we can do or contribute one ounce of anything towards our salvation, because we can’t. It is the total gift of God’s grace but then what, will you not live for Him and lay down your life for others because of that grace?
Why on earth have others given so much and we give so little? Why have men and women left everything to go and spill every drop of their lives in the mission fields in service to God and man? And why have others given themselves to be burned at the stake or killed for being Christians while we lay back and soak up all the grace we can but then would not bother to lift a finger if it does not serve our will or our purposes?
I will tell you why: it is because we have not believed the true gospel of Jesus Christ or surrendered our lives...
