A 36-year-old painter from Marsascala was this morning jailed two years after he pleaded guilty to theft from houses in Rabat, Balzan, Sliema and Lija in May and July.
Antoine Spiteri, who is a drug addict, also saw Magistrate Antonio Mizzi bring into force his suspended jail term bringing his total jail time to four years.
The accused also admitted relapsing and committing a crime the operative period of a suspended jail term.
His legal aid lawyer, Mark Mifsud Cutajar, noted that his client had collaborated with the police who had only been investigating one of the thefts.
It was his client who informed them about the others, he said, adding that all thefts were motivated by the man’s addiction to drugs.
