Sex workers invited to care home

An investigation has been launched after it was revealed that sex workers were invited into a care home for liaisons with disabled residents. East Sussex County Council said it was examining the case “to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable people”. The inquiry follows reports that sex workers were regularly contacted by staff at the Chaseley care home in Eastbourne, East Sussex, under what was known as a “special visit”. The manager of the home - which cares for adults from the age of 18 with all types of disabilities – said they were helping the residents. Staff would telephone the sex workers and invite them to the home, or they would dial the number and hold the phone to the disabled person’s ear. The home’s former manager Helena Barrow told the Brighton Argus newspaper: “The fact is, sex workers are allowed by law to sexually enable people, but care workers are not. “So, if someone asked, we would often call in a professional, someone trained to do that. “It’s known as the resident’s ‘special visit’.” Residents paid for the sexual services themselves through their pensions, savings or benefits.
