All children to have pension account with inital €1,000 - Gonzi

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi underscored the PN's social proposals when he replied to questions during an interview in Qormi this evening. He stressed the need for secure government finances and insisted that Malta’s economic benchmark should be Germany. “In the EU there are countries where people are shedding tears – they are jobless because of a failing economy – because their finances were not secure,” he said. Dr Gonzi was fielding questions from TV presenter Peter Carbonaro at a Taht it-Tinda event. He explained how with a PN in government children will benefit from a pension account opened for each child with €1,000 deposited and a tablet - containing a digital copy of the curriculum text books. Both proposals were greeted with raucous applause and cries of ‘Gonzi’ Gonzi’. He said that parents who work, can use their sick leave when their children are sick. He also explained how the proposed night tariffs will be beneficial not only to households but also to shops, restaurants and factories. “We won’t need to spend €600,000 to build a new power station to get cheaper rates,” he said.
