Graves to be added to Mellieha cemetery

The Planning Authority has approved planning permission to increase the number of graves at an existing cemetery in Mellieha. The number of graves at the cemetery will nearly double, with 76 new graves  to be excavated in an area of barren land that exists within the confines of the existing cemetery. Works at the cemetery will also include alterations and maintenance to the boundary wall, the replacement of the existing steel gate and minor works on the chapel. The cemetery today has 82 graves and is known as ‘Omm il-Hniena’. The cemetery is situated at the bottom of the road which leads down from the centre of Mellieha to Ghadira Bay. The project is expected to cost €400,000.
