The University Students’ Council welcomed the proposal for a pro-rata adjustment of stipends in relation to the cost of living.
In a statement, it said this essentially meant that stipends would reflect increases in inflation, ensuring fair value.
Such measures would maintain the stipend system’s efficiency and relevance to students who widely benefitted from the investment.
KSU also noted that the use of digital technologies in education was being addressed. These technologies needed to be more widely implemented in all branches of the education sphere, to continue providing a more holistic approach addressing ever-changing needs.
“It is essential that investments in the education sector are not only made in the short term and further consideration should be given to a number of key issues such as the content and method of delivery of subject matter, particularly in the earlier stages of education.
“More direct funding towards higher education institutions, especially with the ever-increasing numbers at the University of Malta, is also essential to allow this institution to retain its position, as a high-quality centre of knowledge and excellence that Maltese students...
