Tonio Fenech will not resign if Labour’s energy plan succeeds

Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said this evening that he would not resign from Parliament if a Labour government fulfilled its energy plan. He was addressing a press conference organised by the Broadcasting Authority, where he fielded questions from five journalists. Among other questions, he was asked whether he would resign if Labour delivered on its energy plans once in government, since Dr Muscat had promised to resign if his plans failed. Mr Fenech said he would not be able to resign because he would be on the Opposition benches if Labour were in government. Therefore, he would no longer have a ministerial position. “It is my responsibility to open people’s eyes,” he said afterwards, stressing that Labour’s plans would endanger the country and burden Enemalta with more debt. During the press conference, Mr Fenech reiterated his criticism of Labour’s plans and again blamed Malta’s downgrading by Standard and Poor’s on the Opposition’s decision to vote against the Budget.
