Updated: Opposition leader shoulders responsibility for no confidence motion

Opposition leader Joseph Muscat this evening shouldered responsibility for the motion of no confidence in the government, moved by the Opposition this morning. Speaking on Xarabank, Dr Muscat said that although the motion was signed by deputy leader Anglu Farrugia and whip Joe Mizzi, he solely shouldered responsibility for the decision. The Opposition moved the motion, he said, because the Prime Minister was fleeing from taking the decisions the country needed. And although it suited him better if the Nationalist Party kept fighting internally allowing the administration system to collapse, this was not in the country's best interest. He said he shouldered responsibility for this decision and if the people trusted him with other decisions in future, he would also shoulder them responsibly. Dr Muscat said he believed that a new government led by him would lead with the best cabinet possible and would be able to manage the country in a much better way than it was being administered right now.
