The situation in Libya is slowly improving and Medserv is looking forward to the time when it would be able to reopen its base in Misurata.
In the meantime, the company is expanding into Cyprus, where it is shortly opening a base, and southern Italy, where it also plans to open a base once concessions for oil and gas exploration in the south of Sicily are issued, company chairman Anthony Diacono said.
He was speaking this morning while giving Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi a tour of the company’s warehouses at the Freeport.
Mr Diacono thanked the Prime Minister for the way he handled the Libya crisis, which enabled Maltese companies to maintain their presence in the North African land and hopefully grow.
Medserv, a logistics company that provides services to the oil and gas industry, was hard hit by the crisis and its base in Misurata had to stop functioning.
The company, which is also floated on the Stock Exchange, has created a specialised mud used in the oil and gas industry to plug drilling holes in case of leakages.
Recently, it had an export order for this product from Tanzania.
