PM writes to Obama expressing Malta's condemnation at Libya attack

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi has written to US President Barack Obama expressing Malta’s condemnation of the appalling attack on the US embassy in Benghazi yesterday which took the life of US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens and three of his staff. Dr Gonzi said: “I am deeply shocked and saddened on hearing the news of the despicable attack in Benghazi, Libya, which took the life of Ambassador Stevens and three of his staff. “Ambassador Stevens was committed and devoted to the democratic process that has taken root in Libya. He has contributed in no small measure to its fruition. “On behalf of the government and the people of Malta, I wish to express my sympathy and solidarity with the government and the people of the United States of America. “Malta condemns the appalling attack in the strongest terms and without any reservation. We augur that the perpetrators of this heinous crime be brought swiftly to justice. “As we are compelled to face these difficult challenges with fortitude, be assured of Malta’s continued support in strengthening the stability in the region, bearing in mind that the path taken by the Libyan people in building a democratic Libya shall not be ...
