The 11th edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival, organised by the Culture Ministry and the Malta Tourism Authority is being held between tomorrow at 9 p.m. tomorrow and Tuesday.
The festival follows almost a week of pyrotechnic events organised in connection with the 13th International Symposium on Fireworks which was held this week.
The symposium attracted 319 pyrotechnic experts and their families from 38 countries.
It came to a close last night with a gala dinner for around 400 people and three spectacular displays by Italian company Pirico, Italian choreographer Ugo Lieto and Lourdes Firework Factory of Qrendi.
The spectacle was held over the Grand Harbour.
The fireworks festival this year is a competitive one, with six countries competing over two days.
Canada, the UK and Austria will light up the harbour tomorrow, while St Michael's fireworks factory of Lija opens the night on Monday. Lija will be followed by Croatia and Poland. All displays are pyro-musical.
The public may vote for the best display by SMS.
A trophy for 'Public Opinion' will be presented to the public's choice on Tuesday, the closing night.
