A request by the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association to discuss Enemalta at MCESD has been postponed for the second time round.
This was leading to a degradation of MCESD as the forum where issues of national importance could be discussed and solutions offered, the association said in a statement.
It said it specifically asked the MCESD chairman for a meeting to discuss 'Enemalta, the situation at present and the way forward' in writing some two months ago, after informally receiving confirmation that such a discussion would be welcomed by the members of the MCESD.
MCESD scheduled a meeting for second half of March but this meeting was postponed 48 hours before it was due to be held. It was then rescheduled to last Tuesday but it was again postponed.
The MHRA said it been complaining about the high energy costs which were hurting the tourism industry for a long tiem.
It said it did not feel that these costs correctly reflected the costs in energy generation and distribution and believed there were unacceptable inefficiencies which were being passed on to members, leading them to become uncompetitive.
