The challenges facing the health sector were discussed today between Opposition leader Joseph Muscat and the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses at the union’s headquarters.
Dr Muscat was visiting the union as part of the May 1 activities.
Dr Muscat said that there were many sectors in which the government and the private sector could partner up including to encourage more women to join the workforce.
One had to look further than the bed problem when speaking on problems facing the sector. One of these problems was the short supply of nurses and the government had made a fundamental mistake when it limited the number of new nurses admitted within the sector as it was now having to employ foreigners.
