The hoopla over public transport may have abated but it still cropped up as a concern when the Prime Minister met hotel workers yesterday. The Nationalist Party started its campaign to mark Worker’s Day on May 1 by visiting the Excelsior Hotel where Lawrence Gonzi chatted with staff in the canteen. Journalists were only allowed in for a few minutes before the half-hour meeting took place behind closed doors. But two employees from Żejtun raised concerns about their local bus service. A man said the direct service to St Luke’s Hospital should be reinstated as it was still being used as a rehabilitation centre. He suggested the bus that went to Mater Dei Hospital should stop at St Luke’s. Another employee complained that she had to leave home very early as the bus to Valletta ran every hour not every 30 minutes. Dr Gonzi said the public transport reform was beneficial but promised to look into the two complaints raised.
